‘Great Resignation’ being felt in Wyoming

More people walked off the job last month in the Cowboy State than anywhere else except Alaska

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — No one, it seems, is working. Have we all just quit our jobs?

Those of you reading this from your desk, your office, your cubicle (are there still cubicles?), your work truck…apologies aside. You are the exception.

A new WalletHub study found we are walking off the job at an alarming rate. In fact, Wyoming workers told the boss to “Take this job and shove it” more than every other state but one last month.

The shockwave of the so-called ‘Great Resignation’ continues to be felt across America and certainly in Wyoming, where 4.7% of us quit our jobs last month. Only Alaska had a higher resignation rate at 5.2%.

For the year, 3.22% of Wyomingites have resigned—still top 10 for the Cowboy State.

WalletHub today released its 2022’s States With the Highest Job Resignation Rates in an effort to learn why and where people are quitting.

Why aren’t we working?

“A lot is going on. Many who were close to or at retirement age may have simply retired. The stock market and 401ks are way up, and it incented a lot to simply remain out of the workplace. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as this dynamic creates more mid-and entry-level openings,” said Scott Behson, PhD professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University. “Also, the pandemic and changes to immigration policy have restricted the labor pool. But a lot of what I am seeing is that so many employees are considering how they were treated by employers during the past few years and deciding to seek out more supportive workplaces.”

Michael J. Yelnosky, professor at Roger Williams University, saw a lot of COVID in the equation.

“I think the pandemic has prompted many people to rethink their priorities in life, and many of those who cannot work remotely now have to factor in the risk of contracting COVID and whether they are receiving adequate compensation for that risk,” he said.

  1. The laziest generation in American history. What will they be known for creating or doing that’s positive? What have they invented, created or added to society? Its. affect that those same folks support socialism and cry to tax the wealthy at a high rate. Its sickening watching folks complain about other success and yet they won’t do anything to further their income. I have no sympathy for the unemployed at this time. Most cant read nor write well and couldn’t read the founding documents because they are written in cursive. Not one more dime of tax payer money to support the able bodied unemployed… if you do hide it in their work boots where they will never find it…….. Socialism sucks and the lazy entitled crowd deserve no quarter. Get off your butt and work or starve, suits me fine.
