JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Bear 399 and her four cubs appear to have returned to Grand Teton National Park in preparation for winter hibernation.
After the famed grizzly’s tour through downtown Jackson and other residential areas, the bruin family was last spotted entering the park on Wednesday with all four offspring.
“We can confirm grizzly bear #399 and the four yearlings are alive, and remain north of Jackson at this time. No additional collaring or trapping activities have taken place since the two yearlings that were collared recently,” said Joe Szuszwalak, public affairs specialist for U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. “We hope the elk population reduction picks up and she and her cubs find plenty of food to scavenge before heading to den.”
