Hole Food Rescue cancels Million Pound Party
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Hole Food Rescue has cancelled its 2021 Million Pound Party. The popular fundraiser was scheduled for next Thursday, August 26 at The Center for the Arts.
The Million Pound Party is an annual local event that is held to thank the community for its support, and spread awareness of food waste and food insecurity in Jackson. This is the second year the event will be cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic.
Hole Food Rescue is an organization that prioritizes neighbors, volunteers and children. With the local COVID-19 risk level elevated to RED (high), and weekly numbers continuing to rise, HFR has determined this is the safest, most responsible decision at this time.
“We are responsible to our community when in need, and must ensure that we can provide that support and keep each other safe. We did that at the height of the pandemic, and we will continue to do that throughout these challenging times,” said Lisa Lent, executive director at Hole Food Rescue. “Although planning for the event has been in the works for quite some time, I am confident we are making the right decision.”
Hole Food Rescue’s mission has always been to eliminate food waste; and true to its roots, no food from this event would have gone to waste. Plans were in the works to distribute the donated pigs, et al throughout the community.
“We are grateful for our generous sponsors and chefs,” Lent added. “The event wouldn’t be possible without them and hopefully we can pick up where we left off next year.”
If you have already purchased tickets for the Million Pound Party, Hole Food Rescue will provide a refund if desired. If you wish to consider your tickets as a donation, please contact Emily Wuebbolt for a tax receipt.
