JHHS students make trip to sister city Tlaxcala

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Last week a group of 16 students and three teachers from Jackson Hole High School visited Tlaxcala, Mexico and were welcomed by the area’s mayor.

Town of Jackson officials sent a framed print of the Tetons with the group to present to local officials. (Thanks to the teachers for lugging it on the plane!)

Last December, the Town Council passed a resolution establishing a sister city relationship with Tlaxcala as an area with similar geography, seasonal visitors, and shared cultural heritage. The distinction was made in recognition that many Tlaxcaltecas have moved to, worked in, and settled in Jackson over the last 30 years.

The school delegation from Jackson presented Tlaxcala’s mayor with the print of the Tetons, which they gladly accepted. The next step in the sister city partnership is for Tlaxcala’s government to pass a similar resolution. They are reportedly working on now. Once that is established, the two municipalities plan to have a video conference call to connect and plan further visits and cross-cultural exchange.
