Jorgensen declares for seat on the council
Vice-mayor seeks reelection after 4-year stint
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Town councilmember and vice mayor Arne Jorgensen announced this week he will seek reelection to the Jackson Town Council.
“During my four years in office—and especially in the last two years —I have seen the real-life stressors and pains of making ends meet in an increasingly more expensive region,” Jorgensen said. “I will continue to provide a thoughtful positive voice to our dialogues in a way that improves the place that we have been fortunate enough to call home for all community members—not just the loudest in the room.”
Jorgensen cited his accomplishments in the area of creating housing, protecting the environment, and increasing transparency in the budget process.
In his announcement for another term, Jorgensen highlighted the urgency of addressing growth and inequity.
“We are at a tipping point between becoming a ‘resort only’ [instead] of a community first. We should view our discussions through this lens and be sure that we are looking to reinforce a community of people while respecting place,” Jorgensen said.
Jorgensen won a seat on the council in 2018 with 21.55% (2,040) of the vote between Jonathan Schechter, Jessica Sell Chambers, and Don Frank.
Prior to running for office, Jorgensen has been an architect for over 30 years and served on the Housing Trust’s founding board.
“This experience has reinforced my strong focus on housing issues and the need to celebrate the critical positive benefit of our affordable housing owners and renters in our community,” Jorgensen said.
The other seat coming up for election is Schechter’s. He has not yet announced whether he will seek reelection. Devon Viehman, who made an unsuccessful run in 2020, is the only other candidate to announce intentions for a council seat in 2022.
