Malo 4 for 4 despite slight mishap at the turnaround in Big Piney

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Anny Malo made it 4 for 4 after winning the 4th stage in Big Piney/Marbleton Tuesday. Cathy Rivest and Lina Streeper finished 2nd and 3rd.

Malo led the blistering pace, averaging 14.1 mph and 3 minutes ahead of Rivest. All this despite getting tangled briefly with Dave Torgerson at the turnaround in the out-and-back leg. Bruce Magnusson also struggled with the turnaround.

JR Anderson slid up to 4th overall after flawless run. Bemidji, Minnesota musher Jake Robinson continues to make strides after a 5th place run in Big Piney. He put the spur to his dogs, asking them to make up time for Monday’s Pinedale run when he spent a lot of time off-trail in whiteout conditions. The dogs sure responded.

Malo lengthened her cumulative lead over Streeper by 18 minutes.

Today’s stage takes place in Kemmerer. The 34-mile out-and-back runs up the Hams Fork drainage. Matt Redwine’s trail report shows sunbaked snowpack setting up to be hard and fast. Forecast calls for party cloudy skies with a high of 15 and light wind that will keep it cold.
