Moose split with talented Denver team
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Moose held off a talented Denver Leafs team Friday, but dropped a thriller to the visitors in overtime Saturday night.
Jackson 6, Denver 3
Moose blueliners got into the scoring act Friday as Jackson got goals from Vince Macri and Sage Welch.
Macri had a monster game at both ends of the ice. The steady defenseman keeps the crease clear on most nights. Friday, Macri saw the opportunity to rush the puck up the left wing and slipped one by Denver net minder Wyatt Dickerson.
Drew Akins and AJ Sanders both enjoyed 4-point nights with 2 goals and 2 assists apiece.
Denver 9, Jackson 8, OT
Saturday night shootout was a wild one as the Moose and Leafs traded goals all game. It was 2-2 after the 1st period, 5-5 after the 2nd, and 8-8 at the end of regulation.
Akins and Sanders again paced the offense with hat tricks and 3 assists each. Dakota Richardson added a 4-point night (1G, 3A).
Unlike Friday, it was a penalty-filled night with the Moose taking advantage of the powerplay, converting 4 of 8 opportunities with the man advantage.
A late goal in overtime sunk the Moose, however, but the fans were treated to a heck of a hockey game.
