Old Bill’s banks another record

$19,722,220 raised for area nonprofits

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — For two straight years a pandemic has forced Jackson’s iconic celebration of philanthropic giving to go off without the actual signature event. And, like last year, the tote board displayed record numbers despite the damper on race day.

The Community Foundation of Jackson Hole today announced Old Bill’s Fun Run 2021 raised a total of $19,722,220 in support of local nonprofits, an increase of 29% over last year. This year’s effort represents over 25,000 gifts from 4,158 donors. The match pool, created with gifts from Mr. & Mrs. Old Bill, co-challengers and friends, totaled $5,387,200, while participating organizations received $14,335,020 in gifts designated specifically for them.

Since its inception, Old Bill’s has provided a grand total of $208,757,043 to nonprofits in Teton County.

“We’re blown away by the generosity of the Jackson community,” said Community Foundation president Laurie Andrews, “Through the ups and downs, Old Bill’s continues to make a difference in the lives of everyone in Teton County. To see the community show up like this for our local nonprofits reinforces how we’re all in this together.”

Participating organizations were provided with a 70% matching grant. Nonprofits that raised $30,000 or more in designated gifts received a matching grant of $20,910 from the Community Foundation—the highest match percentage and matching grant ever.

In celebration of Old Bill’s 25th anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Old Bill generously provided the first $1,000,000 in matching funds, doubling their existing challenge. This ‘giving season,’ 37 co-challengers either increased their gift or donated to the Old Bill’s match fund for the first time. In total, 89 co-challengers partnered with Mr. and Mrs. Old Bill this year.

Co-challengers and friends of the match do not designate their gifts for specific nonprofits, and instead provide the matching grants that all participating nonprofits receive, fostering philanthropy as a community value.

“Old Bill’s is about coming together, fostering philanthropy, and supporting the needs of our community,” said Stacey Morse, board chair of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole. “Those values are integral to what makes Jackson a special place to call home.”

On Monday, October 25, the Community Foundation hosted its annual awards party at The Center where participating nonprofits were invited to pick up their grant award checks.
