RoboBroncs battle hard with Powell at FIRST Tech Challenge championship

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Super successful toy drive, strong showing at First Tech championship tournament…is there anything these robot nerds can’t do?

A frenzy of live robot action got underway at CY Middle School in Casper on Saturday, February 19, as teams competed at the 2022 FIRST Tech Challenge Wyoming Championship. Thirty-two teams of students in grades 4th-8th from across Wyoming participated in the Freight Frenzy- themed event.

As part of last weekend’s competition, teams addressed today’s global challenges related to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #9, focused on building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and fostering innovation. FIRST participants were encouraged to think about future transportation sustainability, and by doing so, were empowered to be the next generation of leaders and innovators, tackling the world’s toughest challenges.

Teams were eligible for a variety of awards (winners are listed below). The tournament’s top honor, the Inspire Award, recognized a team that embodies the FIRST Tech Challenge experience.

The semifinal rounds featured a lot of Powell and Jackson teams. Four of the 12 robots competing in finals were from Jackson.

The RoboBroncs will be showing off the FRC robot at the new lab space south of town. Feel free to stop by Thursday, February 24 from 7-8pm at 535 Deer Drive, #513.
