JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Rotary Lunch Club of Jackson Hole announced a Rotarian of the Year, as well as designating a new president to head the organization moving forward.
Melissa Turley was honored as Rotarian of the Year today during their lunch program. Turley currently serves on the programming committee, the Rotary board and as president from 2020-21. She was recognized for her service to the club and willingness “to step in when needed and to guarantee that others thrive.”
“Melissa has given her time and talent selflessly to our Rotary Lunch Club,” said outgoing president Jim Waldrop. “She never fails to be there for board members and fellow Rotarians when they need someone. Her commitment to service and Rotary is inspiring.”
President Jim Waldrop and the Rotary Lunch Club also recognized Julia Heemstra, Stuart Palmer and Ken Small with a Distinguished Service Award. Their work over the past years to bring clean water to schools in Grahamstown, South Africa, has ensured that schools can remain open and thrive.
This project provides over 5,000 students with reliable water, sanitation and hygiene. Test scores and graduation rates have sored because of this life-affirming work.
Leadership change
During Tuesday’s meeting, Jim Waldrop turned over leadership of the Rotary Lunch Club to incoming president Jessica Jaubert. Jaubert will lead the local Rotary Lunch Club until summer 2023.
“We are fortunate to have Jim’s leadership and passion for service,” says Rotary president Jessica Jaubert. “From founding and spearheading the fundraiser Casino Night to his many hours devoted to student scholarships, Jim represents Rotary’s motto of ‘service above self.’ This past year he has championed the Grahamstown project, our local Interact Club and DEI programs and work. We look forward to his continued guidance on our board.”
