Sandy grows to 99 acres, closures expected
Type 3 incident management team arriving Saturday
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Sandy Fire has grown enough to prompt closures likely to take effect this weekend.
The fire was discovered around 3:30pm on June 28 burning near Monument Ridge in the Cliff Creek area. Since then, the Sandy has grown to 99 acres as of July 1, exhibiting moderate fire behavior.
A Type 3 incident management team has arrived and will assume command Saturday. A Type 3 incident management team is mobilized to provide command and control and assist the forest by managing the fire suppression operations. A 20-person hand crew, as well as a Type 1 Hotshot crew, and a Type I helicopter are fighting the fire.
Only portions of the following trails within the closure area are closed: Cliff Creek Trail, Highline Trail, Bondurant Creek Trail, Cliff Creek Parallel Trail, Snag Creek Trail, Hunter Creek Trail, and Cliff Creek FS Road 30565.
Construction of handline continued on the north side of Snag Creek to secure anchor points, and firefighters are working slow the spread of the fire south of Snag Creek.
