Sen. Gierau will seek reelection to State Senate

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Wyoming state senator Mike Gierau today announced he will seek reelection this fall.

Gierau, a Democrat representing Senate District 17, is well-versed with legislative matters. Before becoming a state senator in 2019, Gierau was a member of the House, representing District 16 from 2017-18.

At the Senate level, Gierau sat as Senate Minority Caucus Chairman for 2019-2020, and is currently Senate Minority Whip.

Prior to entering state-level politics, Gierau served on the Town of Jackson Planning Commission. Later he was elected to the town council where he served for four years and the board of county commissioners, where he spent six years as commissioner.

A small business owner, Gierau says he knows the issues affecting not only Teton County but also friends across the state—housing, transportation, healthcare and education. He owns the Jedediah Corporation, which has been in business locally since 1980. It currently operates Jedediah’s at the Airport in both Jackson and Missoula, Montana; and previously operated Jedediah’s Original House of Sourdough on the town square.

“Through the last several years, I am proud of the work we have accomplished in the Legislature and the relationships I have formed,” Gierau said. “Wyoming is seeing a lot of changes, particularly in the last two years, and I hope voters allow me to continue working for the people of Teton County to bring light to the issues we are facing. Our future generations depend on the work we will accomplish in the next years.”

Gierau counts tax relief for seniors, funding for K-12 schools, advocating for funding for developmentally disabled children, capital construction for CWC’s Jackson campus, funding for small businesses regarding COVID relief, and funding services for at-risk kids as some of his most important work in the Senate.
