Standoff in East Jackson ends in arrest
24-year-old taken into custody after deploying bear spray on investigating officers
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — A four-hour standoff with authorities yesterday ended peacefully after a Jackson man was placed under arrest.
Two officers of the Jackson Police Department were sprayed with bear spray by a male suspect at they were called to investigate a report of a family disturbance on E. Hall. Both are reportedly in satisfactory condition after the assault.
Lt. Russ Ruschill says his department received the call at 3:41pm. After the responding officers were sprayed, the male suspect retreated into a residence and barricaded himself inside.
Additional police officers and other law enforcement agencies responded including Wyoming Highway Patrol and Teton County Sheriff’s Office. Police negotiated unsuccessfully with the suspect to surrender for nearly four hours.
Finally, a search warrant was obtained at 7pm, and law enforcement made forceful entry to arrest a 24-year-old man without incident.
The investigation is ongoing. Charges against the suspect are still pending.
