JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Wolf population in Wyoming appears to have stabilized at levels beyond expectation.
Wyoming Game and Fish Department confirmed gray wolf populations exceeded delisting criteria for the 19th consecutive year. In addition, state wildlife managers say gray wolf counts and conflict trends indicate stability has been reached in the Cowboy State at a level at or above state population objectives.
According to the 2020 report, Wyoming is home to at least 327 wolves in some 44 packs or more. There are also about 23 breeding pairs in Wyoming.
Further, the 2020 Wyoming Gray Wolf Monitoring and Management annual report highlights Wyoming is maintaining wolf numbers at healthy levels through the use of hunting, which also helps hold conflict numbers at bay, according to state wildlife managers.
