Teton Habitat named AmeriCorps host
Habitat AmeriCorps will lend a hand on E. Kelly project
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Teton Habitat seeks applicants for an AmeriCorps National member to serve as a construction crew leader beginning in spring of 2022.
The AmeriCorps National member will join an existing four-person construction team and will learn on-the-job construction skills, enhance their leadership skills, and gain nonprofit experience while working with volunteers from different walks of life. The start date for this position will coincide with the groundbreaking of Teton Habitat’s newest project at 445 E. Kelly Ave, an 18-unit townhome development in partnership with Teton County and serve a ten-and-a-half-month term.
Hosting an AmeriCorps member greatly increases Teton Habitat’s capacity to work with volunteers and keep construction costs affordable.
“Habitat for Humanity has achieved great success with a series of AmeriCorps National Members over the past few years. Recently, two alumni accepted paid positions with Habitat after completing AmeriCorps service terms,” says Peter Wood, Teton Habitat’s construction manager. “With some training, National members become vital to our mission, expanding our capacity to work with volunteer crews in all aspects of construction.”
By serving with Teton Habitat, AmeriCorps National members can make an immediate positive impact for local families and community members. Benefits of AmeriCorps service include a living allowance, a Segal Education Award, health care benefits and more. In addition to standard benefits, Teton Habitat offers housing during AmeriCorps service terms.
“What I loved about my time as an AmeriCorps National Member at Teton Habitat was not only the variety of construction skills I was able to learn—from framing to finish carpentry—but also the opportunity to engage with the community of Jackson, said Kaeli McClenahan, Teton Habitat’s construction site supervisor and AmeriCorps alumni. “Developing relationships with the homeowners and volunteers made Habitat’s mission even more important to me, and I felt that the year I spent serving here was impactful.”
