JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Two mountain bike crashes had Teton County Search and Rescue busy Wednesday.
In the first, a local man crashed on his bike while descending Wilson Canyon on the backside of Snow King Mountain. TCSAR was called at 9:34am. Teams of volunteers responded in two RZR side-by-sides hauling mountain bikes to the top of Snow King. They then descended into Wilson Canyon via mountain bike to the patient.
Given the nature of the man’s injuries and difficult location, the team requested interagency helicopter assistance from Teton Helitack. Grand Teton National Park rangers responded in the helicopter and were able to short-haul the patient to an LZ at the Cache Creek trailhead. The patient was then transferred to an ambulance.
The remaining TCSAR team members then rode their bikes back up to the top of Snow King and exited the field in the RZRs.
As the volunteers were debriefing that incident, they received another call about an injured female mountain biker. This incident occurred on the Jump Line trail on Teton Pass. A woman had crashed while descending the trail and was experiencing significant pain.
Using the RZR once again, the team responded by driving up the Old Pass Road to a location near the patient. They were able to assess her injuries and drive her in the RZR to her vehicle, where she opted to self-transport instead of ambulance care.
