Ultimate Towner back and better than ever

Amazing Race now in its 9th year

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The 9th annual Ultimate Towner event will take place on Sunday, June 5 throughout the Town of Jackson. The unique race will start and finish at Phil Baux Park. The 2022 event beneficiary is the Teton County Search and Rescue Foundation.

Race offers new twist

Instead of having a 4-mile course that follows the same route around town, teams will need to strategize on their approach to complete as many checkpoint challenges as they choose over a 2-hour time frame. For example, teams could begin the event by heading to locations near Mike Yokel Park, Rodeo Grounds, or the Town Square first.

This will introduce an element of strategy into the event in addition to allowing for teams to decide on their approach. The optional use of non-motorized transportation to go to checkpoints will offer ways for more people to participate.

“I am excited to offer this new format and to continue the tradition of the Towner,” said Tim Walther, event director and CEO of Grand Dynamics. “There is a lot of heart that goes into creating and delivering this experience by all involved. This event is for locals and one that will celebrate the uniqueness of our town and community.”

Course design by modern technology

The Towner 2020 course will be guided by a smartphone-based app with integrated mapping guidance features. Teams will navigate the course and submit their completed checkpoints via text, photo, and video while acquiring points for each submission while being judged for accuracy and style. There will be both location-specific checkpoints and “on the go” challenges.

“We have been utilizing the event technology for the past few years very successfully in our corporate team building events, and it has proven to be an amazing way to offer a variety of challenges and to capture the spirit of teamwork,” said Brandon Smith, Grand Dynamics event specialist.
