Wilson transportation corridor taking shape
Consultants to present to commissioners at workshop
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The study of multi-modal improvements for the Wilson transportation corridor is nearing the final stage as consultants prepare to present their findings and recommendations to the County Commissioners next week.
Alta Planning + Design, Inc. will present a final plan recommendation for Wilson Multi-Modal Improvements to Teton County Commissioners during a workshop on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 10:30am. The recommended concepts will safely accommodate motorists, transit users, bicyclists, and pedestrians on and parallel to Wyoming Highway 22 through Wilson from approximately Elliott Cemetery Road to Wenzel Lane. The plan addresses a variety of areas for improvement, including vehicular capacity and safety, access management, parking, pathway development, safe routes to school, pedestrian crossings, and corridor aesthetics.
The final plan recommendation was conceived through the work of Teton County Public Works, Wyoming Department Transportation (WYDOT), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Alta Planning + Design, Inc., public comment, and the Wilson Steering Committee, which is comprised of representatives from the Wilson community and Teton County School District #1. Two public open houses, one in-person and one virtual, were hosted throughout various stages of the study, which began in January 2020.
The County Commissioners approved the Wilson Corridor Study as a Co-Op agreement with WYDOT in April 2019, with WYDOT providing $50,000 of the project’s approximate $137,000 budget.
Following the workshop on January 31, Teton County Public Works Director Heather Overholser will bring the recommendations before the County Commissioners at a future regular meeting for adoption. If adopted, the project will move forward to final design and construction and will be funded by the 2020 Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Transportation Grant and Teton County.
The workshop presentation can be seen in-person at the Teton County Board of County Commissioners Chambers located inside the Teton County Administration Building located at 200 S. Willow Street in Jackson, online via the Teton County Website, or via Zoom.
