JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — In the wake of nationwide interest sparked as a result of the Gabby Petito missing person/homicide case, the state of Wyoming announced it has launched a comprehensive missing person website.
The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (WDCI) is behind the effort with assistance from data collected from nationwide law enforcement agencies and compiled by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
Wyoming law enforcement agencies are working cooperatively on unsolved missing person cases located throughout the state. A brief summary of each missing person case is provided on a new website. Anyone with information regarding any of these cases is urged to contact the law enforcement agency of jurisdiction or Wyoming DCI.
Wyoming DCI admits the webpage is a work in progress and the information provided is not necessarily in ‘real time.’ For instance, some listings may be people who have since been found or some information may be outdated.
A quick glance at the latest missing person list for just this month reveals an astounding number of cases, especially amongst Native American women—a known ‘epidemic’ throughout Wyoming and the U.S. Since 2000, Indigenous people account for 21% of homicides in Wyoming, even though make up only 3% of the population.
