Another busy weekend on the road for Broncs basketball

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole High School basketball players are back on the bus for another long road trip. The Broncs will take on Riverton tonight and Cody Saturday afternoon.

Friday night in Riverton

It won’t be easy for the boys against the Wolverines Friday. The Broncs (5-4, 1-2) are coming off 2 straight wins and would love nothing more than to hit the .500 mark in both their overall and conference record.

But Riverton may have other plans. Riding a 4-game winning streak of their own, the Wolverines (9-5, 3-0) are coming off an impressive 26-point win over Lander Valley on January 25. Riverton was also recently ranked #5 in the 4A. Jackson is ranked #12.

But will Riverton show some rust? They haven’t played in 10 days and have not looked terribly impressive at home where they are 1-2.

Jackson will get Carson Harland back. That will give Isaac Larsen a little breather in the backcourt. When fully healthy, the Broncs can get points in the paint with Andrew Hanna. They can score midrange with Gavin Keelin’s swing play. Or the Jackson boys can hit from long-range with AJ Fowler and Seb Brunner.

The girls should have an easier go of it in Riverton. The Lady Broncs (2-9) have seen some very talented teams this season already so it will be refreshing to get matched up with a Lady Wolverine team not enjoying one of its better campaigns.

Riverton is 3-11, 0-3 and riding a 5-game losing streak. They are ranked near the bottom in offense, defense, and team shooting.

Saturday afternoon with Cody

The ladies will have their toughest challenge of the season Saturday. The Cody Fillies (12-0, 3-0) have been destroying teams en route to a perfect season so far. The Cody roster is loaded top to bottom with ballers but Jackson coach Andrea Joyce isn’t fazed.

“I told our girls, ‘Don’t even get on the bus if you don’t believe you can beat Cody,’” Joyce said.

The Jackson boys, however, should have an easier time with their Broncs counter parts. Cody is 5-6, 1-2 on the season. They have length and some gifted athletes but just have not been able to pull it all together so far in 2021-22.

Cody will be coming off Friday night hosting the Star Valley Braves.
