Body of climber found, recovered on Teewinot
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Grand Teton National Park rangers Saturday recovered the body of a deceased male on Teewinot Mountain. Identification of the deceased climber is being withheld until notification of next-of-kin is completed.
Another climber at the base of Black Chimney climbing route on Teewinot came across the body and reported it. Rangers arrived onscene and recovered the remains of the deceased climber. The National Park Service is conducting an investigation into the accident.
Preliminary details indicate the deceased was attempting a solo climb of the East Face route Rangers found a marked-up map among the belongings of the dead climber.
Park authorities noted route finding can be difficult in that area.
