Broncs Sadler Smith shines in Shrine Bowl
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Former Jackson Broncs quarterback Sadler Smith had a standout game at the 49th edition of the Shrine Bowl last weekend. The three-time all-state selection was named offensive MVP for his performance leading the North over the South by a 37-3 final.
Smith had 165 of total offense and accounted for two scores. He racked up 103 yards through the air and added 62 yards on the ground.
The recent grad told Jackson Hole Press it was pretty easy adjusting to calling a new offense in the one-off game.
“Luckily for me it was really similar to the offense I was running back at Jackson my whole high school career, just different hand signals,” Smith said.
As far as getting used to handing off and throwing to players that were once the opposition for many years—Cody’s Chaz Cowie and Drew Trotter, for instance—Smith said he had no problem with seeing the former ‘enemy’ in the huddle.
“They are a bunch of talented players, completely nice guys. Definitely no animosity of anything. We are teammates now,” Smith said during the week of practice and prep for the game.
Smith committed Santa Monica College where he will continue his football career and have to prove himself all over again at the next level; something he said he is “absolutely ready to do.”
Jackson’s Colter Dawson also made the trip to Casper for the Shrine Bowl as a defensive selection. Dawson heads to Air Force this fall where the Falcons see him as an edge rusher.
