Cold and wet chills fires but summer not over yet
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Cooler temps and a ton of rain in recent days have all but squelched area wildfires. But threat from fires is far from over despite last week’s downgrade to HIGH from VERY HIGH, and summer might be handing around longer than you think.
First the good news…
The Fremont Lake Campground Fire, Willow Creek Fire, Spread Creek Fire, Wallace Fire, Mosquito Fire, Sheep Fire, Turpin Fire, and Little Granite Fire—all burning on the Bridger-Teton N.F.—are out.
In Grand Teton N.P., the Moran Fire, Cottonwood 2 Fire, and Fork Fire are also out.
Now the better news…
Despite snow on Togwotee Pass Saturday night and temperatures struggling to reach 60 late last week, reports of summer’s end might be premature.
The National Weather Service 1-month temperature outlook indicates Jackson Hole and the rest of northwest Wyoming is in for above-average temperatures through September.
The 10-day outlook for Jackson Hole does not have us zooming right back into the 80s again but sunny and mild rules the forecast for sure. Unfortunately, hazy skies due to smoke from western wildfires will likely return to the valley this week as well.
