CWD forces outsourcing of wild game disposal, fee changes
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — After chronic wasting disease was detected, Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling today announced it will begin transferring wild game carcasses to Sublette County Waste Management District for disposal beginning December 6.
With the imminent closure of the dead animal pit at the Teton County Trash Transfer Station, ISWR evaluated safe and environmentally sound disposal options for wildlife carcasses and determined that disposal at a nearby, lined, landfill was the preferred option.
Public entities (including federal, state, and municipal government agencies), private businesses, and community members disposing of wild game carcasses will be charged the new transfer rate of $0.22 per pound ($433 per ton).
Wildlife carcasses can be disposed of at the Trash Transfer Station Monday through Friday, 8am–3pm, and Saturdays, 9am–1pm. There is no change to the tip fee for domestic animals.
