David Joyce leaving the Broncs football program
Head coach will take up same position for Teton Timberwolves
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Jackson Hole High School head football coach David Joyce is leaving the organization to take the same position at Teton High School. Joyce’s wife Andrea has also tendered her resignation as the head coach of the Lady Broncs basketball team.
Joyce headed the football program over the past five years where he led the Broncs to back-to-back state championship appearances in 2020 and 2021.
“It was a really hard decision,” Joyce told Jackson Hole Press. “We moved over to Teton Valley a couple years ago. It was the only place we could afford to buy a house. And the commute was just getting hard on the whole family.”
Joyce has kids in 9th, 8th, and 2nd grade. They will all attend Teton High now.
“We are grateful for where Coach Joyce has brought this program,” JHHS Activities Director Mike Hansen said. “He’s done a great job mentoring young men in Jackson and we wish him well in the future where he is headed.”
Hansen said he and district officials are sifting through dozens of applications since the opening was posted about a week ago. They hope to make a decision soon on a replacement.
Joyce has a history of turning around struggling programs. He certainly worked that magic in Jackson where he inherited a dreadful team and suffered through a winless season in 2017 upon his arrival. But the Broncs went a combined 33-13 in the following four seasons.
The Jackson Broncs and Teton Timberwolves have developed somewhat of a rivalry known informally as the ‘Battle for the Tetons.’ Lately, the two teams meet up for 0 week to begin their football seasons. Jackson will travel to Driggs to take on Teton August 26.
A search for a new girls varsity basketball coach is also underway.
