Giants heating up at the right time
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — As the regular season in American League baseball hits the home stretch, Post 43 has picked up its game noticeably.
Jackson has won 5 of their last 6 games including 3 of 4 on their last homestand Thursday and Friday as they prepare for a long road trip to Laramie and Cheyenne.
Idaho Falls Tigers 6, Jackson 5
The Giants came up a little short in their comeback bid in the first of two with the Tigers. A big 4-run 5th made things exciting but Idaho Falls held on for the win.
Xander Witt (6-7) was tagged with the loss as the Jackson offense took a little time getting to Tiger starter Ty Staker. The Giants ended up outhitting the Tigers 9-8 but just could not complete the comeback despite erasing a 5-run lead.
Trayson Kostial and Matt Fisher both went 3-4, Fisher with 3 RBIs. Mason Wright also went 2-4 with a ribbie.
Jackson 4, Idaho Falls Tigers 3
Wow, what superlatives are enough to describe the performance from Jackson starter Wylie Wilkes (1-8)? The 15-year-old was as good as any Jackson pitcher has been this year, taking a no-hitter into the 5th innings. More importantly for Wilkes—who is still learning the craft of pitching—the hard-throwing righty walked just 1 while fanning 4.
When the Tigers put up a crooked number on Wilkes with 3 in the 5th, the Giants’ bats immediately responded with a trey of their own to retake the lead for good. Trayson Kostial struck out 2 in an inning of relief to earn his 4th save in as many opportunities.
Kostial continued his torrid pace at the plate with a 2-3 night and 2 RBIs. Bridger Hammond was 2-2 with a double.
Jackson 10, Thunder Ridge 1
The Giants offense put on a show Friday in the opener of a twinbill with Thunder Ridge. Post 43 pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of 3 Thunder errors for an easy win.
Ethan Garner (1-6) cruised to his first victory of the season on the mound, working 6 1/3 innings, surrendering 1 run which scattering 5 hits.
Trayson Kostial—who is hitting .377 with a team high 7 homers and 44 RBIs—had another big day at the plate with a triple and single in 3 trips. Lukas Gralund was 2-3 with a pair of ribbies.
Jackson 7, Thunder Ridge 3
Owen Khanna (5-1) notched the win for Jackson as the Giants hung 4 on Thunder in the opening inning and never looked back.
Ethan Garner and Trayson Kostial each had 2 hits.
