Giants held winless in Montana by Bandits

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Jackson Giants are officially mired in a slump. After a weekend road trip to Montana, the Post 43 boys are looking at a 5-game losing streak.

Belgrade 4, Jackson 1

If the Giants have a cause for optimism it’s the way their two lefties have been throwing. Kade Foulke and Steven Ashurts were again the bright spots in the Jackson rotation. Foulke worked a complete game Saturday, striking out 6 while allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits in a losing effort.

The Jackson bats were pretty much stifled all weekend. Grant Parkin went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Ayden Gralund and Aaron Huggins were the only other Giants to get hits.

Belgrade 12, Jackson 2

The nightcap was all Belgrade as the Bandits scored 3 in the 1st, 4 in the 2nd, and 3 in the 3rd on their way to a 10-run rule ball game.

Xander Witt (1-5) was roughed up in his 2 innings of work, surrendering 9 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits and 4 walks.

Steven Ashurts went 2 for 3. Ayden Gralund was the only other Giant to register a hit.

Belgrade 2, Giants 1 (9 innings)

Sunday morning’s game was a heartbreaker for Jackson. Ashurts bedazzled Belgrade bats for 7 innings. He allowed 1 run on just 5 hits while striking out 4.

Jackson eked out just 3 hits but the biggest was off the bat of Ayden Gralund—an RBI triple in the 6th to tie the game at 1-1.

With Ashurts gone after his pitch count maxed out at 96, Austin VanSkike got Belgrade out in the bottom of the 8th. But a single, a stolen base, and another single won it for Belgrade 2-1 in 9 innings.

Belgrade 10, Jackson 0

Not much went right for Jackson in the final game of four with the Bandits.

Grant Parkin battled on the mound for 5 innings but received no offensive support as the Giants could come up with only 2 hits.
