Girls skid hits 7, Lady Broncs head to Evanston in need of a win
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — If it wasn’t for bad luck, the girls basketball team wouldn’t have any luck at all.
First, the Lady Broncs receive news their star sophomore and leading scorer Karsen Breeding is transferring away to Montana to better pursue a career in volleyball. Then senior Audrey Fouras is lost for the season with a foot injury.
If that’s not enough, there’s no time to look into the rearview mirror lamenting lost opportunities with two powerhouse teams (Teton and Pinedale) on the schedule in the windshield.
Teton 60, Jackson 35
The Teton Lady Timberwolves (12-8) are loaded. Led by senior standout Kinley Brown, this team boasts a silky-smooth backcourt in sophomores Morgan Johnson and Grace Hogan. Senior Tatum Streit on the wing is always ready to knock down that pressure shot, and then there’s the emerging 5’11” freshman Porter Wood who might be the best of them all one day soon.
Teton was never going to be easy for Jackson…in Driggs…on senior night.
Jackson tuned out the raucous hometown crowd at Teton High School and hung with the T-Wolves through the 1st half of play, trailing by just 5 headed into the break. But a nightmare 3rd period sunk the girls night as they managed just 2 baskets in that quarter and eventually lost by 25.
Rachel Noyce led the ladies with 14 and 9 rebounds. Bailey Chamberlain off the bench was spectacular, kicking in a career high 6. Gracie Hardeman and Anna Revill added 4 points each.
Pinedale 59, Jackson 34
As good of an opponent as Teton represented, Pinedale is better. The Lady Wranglers (11-3) boast one of the deepest girls high school basketball teams in all the state.
Seniors Roxanne Rogers, Olivia Edwards, and Abigail Hawke can all shoot from anywhere. If that’s not enough weapons, the diminutive Sara Kunard (5’1”), who never seems to come off the court, and junior wing McKenzie Illoway, are all over the floor all night. And Pinedale, too, has a lady in waiting who is already lighting it up most nights in freshman Elyn Bowers.
For Jackson, Anna Revill had another breakout night and looks to be the defacto Breeding as the Lady Broncs reinvent themselves with the roster changes. Revill scored 14 points, Rachel Noyce added 12 with 8 boards but the Jackson girls were left behind as Pinedale secured their second win over Jackson this season by a nearly identical score to January 14’s 64-32 final.
Next up
There’s little time to lick wounds or scheme anything up for the Red Devils as the ladies jump on the bus again and head to Evanston Saturday to cap a busy week of basketball.
The Evanston girls (5-8, 0-1) have some size inside but otherwise don’t feature an unconquerable lineup in the way Teton and Pinedale did. But the Lady Red Devils always play tough at home.
