High school sports season hits high gear

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole High School sports teams are hitting their stride in the early going. Golf and tennis teams look sharp, and the football team held its first scrimmage Friday night during a cancelled Broncs Bash.

Tennis

The girls were nipped by Sheridan Thursday 3-2 in tennis. Crista Finlay picked up a gutsy comeback win in singles, and Webb/Wylie also gutted a victory in the losing effort.

The boys secured a 3-2 over Sheridan. Campbell Gervais sparkled in a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Landis Zebrowski while Hayden Clark took care of Luke Lawson in 3 sets.

On Friday, the it was the girls on the right end of a 3-2 final over Campbell County. Jackson did all their damage in doubles play after losing both singles matches.

The boys also grabbed a 3-2 victory over Campbell County—Gervais and Clark again leading the way.

Golf

The boys golf squad looks like the team to beat on the links this season. Jackson rose to the top at the Star Valley Invitational August 16-17. The boys trounced the 8-school field last week with a 38-stroke victory over the closest competitor: Evanston.

Mason Evans (74-81-155), Hayes Millham (72-84-156), and Adam Russell (83-73-156) were bunched near the top of the leaderboard over the 2-day tourney. Ridge Kling added his 80-83-163 and the Broncs cruised to another victory.

The future looks bright as well. Watch out for underclassmen Kaden Quantrille and Gavin Chambers. They looked good for the JV squad.

The girls have been struggling so far this season. Gracen Rosenberg led the way for the Lady Broncs with a 114-106-220, but the Jackson girls finished at the bottom in the 5-team standings.

Football

The Jackson Broncs football team is poised to launch a season many are predicting could bring a state title to Jackson. The Broncs came oh so close last season with a loss in the championship game to Cody. Jackson returns several core players from that team as seniors.
