Kelly Walsh stops Broncs tennis teams

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The girls and boys Jackson Hole High School tennis teams both picked up big wins over Natrona last week, but both were brought crashing back to earth by top-ranked Kelly Walsh.

On Friday, the girls slipped past Natrona 3-2 on wins from Christa Finley in singles, and Olivia Webb/Kathleen Wylie and Maya Ferris/Cecily Ross in doubles.

The boys breezed past Natrona 5-0. Campbell Gervais continued his dominance in singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Micah Bush. Hayden Clark also won his singles match and the doubles teams all swept their contests easily.

It was Jackson that got served later that day as undefeated Kelly Walsh proved too tough for the girls and boys. The Lady Trojans have not lost a single match all season, and they steamrolled Jackson’s Lady Broncs 5-0.

The loss drops the girls to 6-3 on the season with an overall match record of 25-20.

Not even the mighty Gervais could save the Broncs against the Trojans. But, boy, did he battle. Gervais fought Kelly Walsh’s Austin Putnam to a 7-6, 3-6, 7-5 loss in a match for the ages.

Travis D’Amours and William Aepli also gave it their best in a close loss, but Jackson just could not manage a win in five tries.

The 5-0 defeat drops Jackson to 7-2 on the season with an overall match record of 32-13.

State tournament play begins in Gillette on September 23.
