Leland Christensen, dead at 62
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Leland Christensen passed away early Friday morning after a battle with complications brought on by COVID. He was 62.
Christensen was hospitalized December 19. He was later moved to a regional hospital on Christmas Eve, and finally admitted to the ICU December 29.
Christensen’s life was one of service. He was a longtime sheriff’s deputy, trading his badge for elected life when he became a county commissioner and then a state senator.
“Leland represented the very best of Wyoming. He devoted decades of his life to serving others. First in the Army, then as a sheriff, county commissioner, and a state senator,” said U.S. Senator John Barrasso. “Leland always put his heart and soul into everything he did. It was a privilege to know him and work alongside him on behalf of Wyoming.”
Senator Cynthia Lummis added, “Leland’s death cuts me to the depths of my heart. Leland was all Wyoming—he was tough as nails, endlessly patient and unwaveringly kind.”
“Very sad to learn of the passing of Leland Christensen,” Congresswoman Liz Cheney stated. “Leland will be missed, and my thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
