Oilers too much for Giants in Casper
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — It was just a few years ago when Jackson and Casper hooked up for a state championship game. The Oilers got the better of the Giants that day with a 3-0 win for state,
Fast forward to the 2021 season and the Oilers are flying high while the Giants are going through some growing pains as a young team still finding their way. A double-dip with Casper Wednesday was all Oilers as Post 43 has to shake it off and get ready for a big tournament in Cody this weekend.
Casper 14, Jackson 4
Jackson ran into a little bad luck and that ugly crooked number inning again on Wednesday’s early game. Kade Foulke showed electric stuff before he lost track of the strike zone in the 3rd. His replacement, Connor Lang, was even wilder, walking 6 on his way to surrendering 6 of the 7 runs Casper put up in the 3rd inning.
Parker Bleggi, Ayden Gralund, Connor Lang, Steven Ashurts, and Matt Fisher all had singles for the Giants. Fisher picked up 2 RBIs.
Casper 13, Jackson 2
Jackson could not get the bats going against Oiler starter Beckham Stowe. Stowe allowed just 3 hits (Bleggi, Ashurts 2) but the Giants hung with Casper for 3 innings. Heading into the 4th, it was Casper with a 4-2 lead.
But a 9-run bottom of the 4th knocked out Jackson starter Steven Ashurts, who gave up 5 earned runs on 8 hits, and the Giants were swamped in a game-shortened nightcap.
