Posted speed limits on Highway 22 will increase….sort of
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — At the request of Teton County commissioners to lower the posted speed limit on Highway 22, the Wyoming Department of Transportation announced it would, in fact, raise the speed limit. Sort of.
An original Engineering Approach study by using the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices found the winter reduction to 45 mph unnecessary and suggested 55 mph be the year-round speed on WYO 22.
County officials implored WYDOT to take another look, asking speeds be reduced year-round to 45 mph.
A follow-up supplemental study by WYDOT resulted in splitting the difference. Highway 22 will be posted 50 mph year-round.
WYDOT will also increase speed in the section approaching the Highway 22-390 interchange near Emily’s Pond. That speed will move from 45 to 50 mph beginning July 1 or sooner.
