Spud Drive-In not coming back this summer

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Management of the Spud Drive-In in Drictor, Idaho confirmed the establish will not reopen as hoped this summer season.

It’s just not as simple as putting the big screen back up. That’s about the gist of it when it comes to fixing the damage to the property caused by a windstorm April 4.

Supply chain issues are one big reason the outdoor theatre will not be up and running this season. Retrofitting a fix to conform a 70-year-old design to today’s building code is another.

“It pains us significantly as we will be missing out on many summertime traditions,” owners declared in a Facebook statement.

In addition to featuring movies in a traditional drive-in setting, the property has also hosted community and private events like concerts in the past.

“We promise when we reopen in 2023, we will throw one of the greatest parties Teton Valley has ever experienced!” management assured.

The community rallied in the days following the blowdown of the big screen. Dozens turned out to help salvage materials and cleanup the site. That wasn’t the issue. The repairs are just not going to be as easy as originally hoped.
