Two wildfires start in Sublette County

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Summer is not over yet and neither is wildfire season. A recent stretch of war, dry weather has been enjoyable for it has also served as a reminder that one careless spark could turn things in a bad direction quickly.

Firefighters are responding to a new startup on the Big Piney Ranger District in the Horse Creek area. The Pass Creek Fire was reported at 3pm Wednesday. It is approximately 5 acres in size and burning actively.

Teton Interagency Fire resources are on scene with assistance from Sublette County Unified Fire and Interagency helicopters. Smoke is visible from the highway and possibly surrounding communities.

Another, smaller fire was also detected today.

The Wohelo Fire is located approximately 1 mile southwest of the head of Middle Piney Lake along the Middle Piney hiking trail. Resources from Teton Interagency Helitack and Engine 671 are taking suppression action, including bucket work from Helicopter 6HE.

The fire is currently smoldering and creeping. Cause of the fire is unclear at this time and being investigated.
