Police make breakthrough in elk statue case thanks to ‘socials’ pressure
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Credit the power of the interwebs, the influence of social media, etc. The man wanted for damaging a statue in downtown Jackson has been identified and come forward to face charges.
Investigators with the Jackson Police Department say they were flooded with tips after releasing video stills of the man wanted for questioning in the late-night toppling of a bronze elk sculpture in front of the Pink Garter last weekend.
“Numerous tips were received from the community. The subject learned from a friend of the media attention and turned himself into the police department earlier this afternoon,” said Lt. Russ Ruschill. “He was interviewed by detectives and charges will be filed in this case through the Teton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.”
Ruschill also confirmed several names will be forwarded to Crimestoppers for reward consideration.
